In Spring 2025, California 3-year-olds with speech language impairments and those with sensory differences (deaf, hard of hearing, or visually impaired) were on track in Language and Literacy at rates comparable to a nationally representative sample of all 3-year-olds.
This finding illustrates the value of using the DRDP, which is aligned with California’s Infant/Toddler and Preschool Learning Foundations and guided by the DEC Recommended Practices. Because the DRDP is observation-based and designed for inclusive settings, it highlights strengths across diverse developmental pathways and ensures that children’s progress is visible for families, educators, and policymakers.
Explore an interactive graph with the California results showing 3, 4, and 5-year-olds and the percent on track by domain and disability category.
